Project Overview: DDT Spray Initiatives in Bihar and Jharkhand

Trisharan Anusuchit Jati Sahkari Sahyog Samiti Limited is actively leading a vital public health initiative by executing targeted DDT (Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) indoor residual spraying across 8 endemic districts in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand. This critical project primarily aims to control and eradicate vector-borne diseases, with a specific focus on eliminating Kala-azar (Visceral Leishmaniasis) and Malaria. By operating in close collaboration with state health departments, the society strictly adheres to the rigorous guidelines set by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).

The field operations are meticulously timed and executed in bi-annual cycles right before the monsoon seasons to maximize the impact of vector control. To ensure seamless ground-level execution, hundreds of local youths have been mobilized, trained, and deployed as skilled spray squads, simultaneously generating meaningful seasonal employment in these rural pockets. Every worker is equipped with mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high-efficiency hand compression pumps to ensure both personal safety and uniform chemical application on indoor walls and cattle sheds.

Beyond the technical spraying work, the society deploys dedicated community mobilizers to conduct micro-awareness campaigns, educating villagers on post-spray safety and effectively resolving any household refusal issues. Supervisors maintain strict quality control through random wall-swab tests and log precise daily data tracking household coverage and chemical consumption. By maintaining robust environmental safeguards to prevent chemical runoff into local water bodies, this project successfully reduces sandfly and mosquito densities. Ultimately, this mass campaign significantly reduces the local disease burden, protecting marginalized families from catastrophic out-of-pocket medical expenses and saving countless lives.
